About
What do we mean by cursed?
There are no witches, cauldrons or spells at Cursed Objects HQ – when we say ‘cursed’, we mean it in the sense of the internet phenomenon of ‘cursed images’, like the infamous beans clock that inspired our logo.
Our objects are cursed in the sense that they are shaped by the politics, society and culture around them – and they tell fascinating upside-down stories about our messed-up world.
What are we interested in?
Time, memory, 20th century history, pop culture, dumb stuff, smart stuff, Walter Benjamin, Stuart Hall and Poirot.
Cursed Objects can be as silly as an hour of Dan and Kasia getting progressively more wired on energy drinks, or as serious as an hour with a housing expert explaining why landlords should be abolished.
WHO ARE WE?
Dr Kasia Tee is a historian based at Birkbeck, University of London, and the Director of the Centre for Museum Cultures. Here’s a programme she made for the BBC Radio 4 about the ‘pleasure culture’ of WW2, and an essay she wrote for Vittles about Polish food shops. Her cat is called Phil.
Dan Hancox is a journalist, writing and editing for The Guardian, Financial Times, LRB and others. His latest book is called Multitudes: How Crowds Made the Modern World, and the one before that was Inner City Pressure: The Story of Grime. His cat is called Kimchi.
